Koole the Arcanist’s Trials: A Path to Spellweaving

Deep within the elven city of Sanctuary, a mysterious figure named Koole the Arcanist awaits those seeking to master the lost art of Spellweaving. But such power is not given freely—it must be earned through a series of arduous trials. Those who prove themselves worthy will gain access to the Spellweaving Spellbook and unlock their true potential as an Arcanist.

The trials consist of five quests, each testing a different skill: combat, resourcefulness, and perseverance. The first trial, Discipline, requires you to descend into the depths of Sanctuary and slay fifty rats within a single hour. These vermin infest the dungeon’s lower levels, and though they are weak, their sheer numbers can make the task overwhelming. The key to success is efficiency—use area-of-effect attacks or weapons with Whirlwind to clear large groups quickly. Be mindful of your time, as leaving the dungeon will reset your progress.

With the first trial complete, Koole will present the second challenge, Needs of the Many, which requires gathering ten bales of cotton. The most reliable sources of cotton are the farms east of Skara Brae and the fields south of Moonglow. Harvest the plants using a bladed tool, spin the raw cotton into spools of thread at a spinning wheel, then weave the thread into bales of cotton at a loom. This trial tests your patience and knowledge of crafting, but those looking to save time may be able to purchase cotton bales from vendors or other players.

The third trial, Making a Contribution, is a test of endurance and dedication. You must collect 250 wooden boards, which can be obtained by chopping trees with a hatchet and converting the logs at a carpenter’s sawmill. The forests of Yew and Minoc are the most efficient places for lumberjacking, but for those looking for a quicker solution, boards can often be purchased from carpenters or other adventurers willing to sell their excess supplies.

As your trials near completion, Koole will demand that you provide essential resources for Sanctuary. In Supplies for Sanctuary, you must gather a sack of flour, ten jars of honey, and twenty cooked fish steaks. Flour can be milled from wheat or bought from a baker, while jars of honey are commonly sold by provisioners. The fish steaks require a more hands-on approach, as you must fish in Britannia’s waters, then cook the fish over a campfire or oven. While these supplies are simple, they are essential to the people of Sanctuary, and your ability to gather them efficiently proves your capability to provide for others.

The final and most grueling trial is The Human Blight, a test of both combat prowess and ruthlessness. Koole demands that you obtain thirty severed human ears, taken from the corpses of Britannia’s undesirables. Brigands, Priests of Mondain, Savages, and even some wandering healers have been known to carry them. Brigands are commonly found along roadsides and in bandit camps, while the Priests of Mondain lurk in the darker corners of the world. This task is not for the faint of heart, and some of your targets may be more formidable than expected. The best approach is to travel in a group, ensuring you can defeat enemies quickly and efficiently while collecting the necessary trophies.

Once you have completed all five trials, return to Koole the Arcanist, who will acknowledge your perseverance and grant you the Spellweaving Spellbook. With it, you will receive your first two spells: Arcane Circle, which increases your Spellweaving power when cast alongside other Arcanists, and Gift of Renewal, a potent healing spell that restores life over time. This moment marks the beginning of your journey into the arcane arts.

The path to Spellweaving is not an easy one, but those who complete Koole’s trials will unlock abilities unlike any other. If you encounter difficulties along the way, consider working with other adventurers, utilizing vendors to speed up resource collection, or seeking guidance from the community. Once you have become a Spellweaver, experiment with different spells and master the intricacies of the Arcanists’ magic to shape your own destiny.

The trials may be complete, but your true journey has only just begun.
