New to Ultima Online (UO)? This guide will help you understand some of the basics so you can get started. Keep in mind, this game originated in 1997, and while each shard has its own unique attributes, the nostalgic aspect of the game is part of its appeal to many players.
Installing Ultima Online
Step 1: Download and Install the Game Client
In order to play Ultima Online, you’ll need to download the client onto your computer by visiting this site. UO Dante’s Inferno is currently optimized for the Classic Client and the Enhanced Client may not perform correctly.
This is a sizable download and may take a few minutes to complete. Be sure to let the client fully install—including all associated patches.
Once downloaded, run the install for the client.
Step 2: Download the Third-Party Client to Access the Shard
The original download installs the game files, this download allows you to access private shards, such as Dante’s Inferno. There are a number of different third-party clients available, but we prefer ClassicUO, which you can find here.
Select the download for your preferred operating system. After the download has completed, run the install for the client.
